Being the only girl with three brothers, shoes were very important to make a statement that I was pretty! I remember owning a pair of black Mary Jane shoes (with a buckle). These were saved for ‘Sunday Best’ and loved wearing them with tights.
I dont really recall, and my Mum’s not around to ask, but I do remember always seeing myself in a little pair of black laceups with while socks in nearly all my early baby pix. So far from the gorgeous little shoes kids wear these days!
My first were a wee little pair of navy blue Mary-Janes. I still have them! My two little girls have also worn them as their first shoes! It might sound odd but I plan to frame them in the future!
My first pair of shoes were ugh boots bought for my by my grandparents when I was 18 months old, we went into the shop and as soon as they were on my feet I ran out of the shop and down the road. They had to buy them for me after that.
Sadly I don’t have my first pair of shoes and I’d have to ask my mum (as Dad would not remember!). But being born mid 1979, I can only imagine how 80s and scary they were!
Mine was a pair of Chinese style cotton baby shoes with traditional tiger embroidery which was hand made by my grandmother. It was a piece of art itself! Sadly I can’t find them anymore. I’d love my baby daughter to have one pair of those one day!
On the anticipation of my first baby’s girls birth I bought two pairs of beauiful old sole shoes the first a matt silver Mary-Janes that she wore til she couldnt sqeeze her little feet into them, the second pair was the cutest little white pair. I have given away all my daughters baby cloths but not her fisrt two pair of shoes which i will keep and give to when she has her own children.
I don’t recall my first pair of shoes, or ever having heard Mum talk about keeping them. But I do have my daughter’s first pair of little satin shoes in her memory box for her – newborn size! And the next few sizes too.. Including her first pair of Old Soles!
Cant recall – and Mums not the sentimental type, but I remember (and have pics of) many different cross over style sandals in white, brown & navy (very 70s/80s retro)
My first shoes that i remeber were black with a buckle, and i was so excited when i learnt how to use the buckle all by my self, i remember arguing with my sister whether laces or buckles were better and i was convinced that buckles were much better and you were clever if you had buckles and could do them up by yourself..
My first shoes were my brothers hand me down blue sandals. They didn’t fit me at all and were a bit worn but they were mine …………. till the dog ate them.
My first pair of shoes (that I remember) were red leather dress shoes with a buckle- my sister and I got matching pairs for christmas (our first ‘new’ pair of shoes), our others were ‘hand-me downs’, from older cousins (boys). U felt so special, at the tender age of 4, I can recall cleaning the soles and placing them back in their box each night!
I have my first pair of shoes (black patent leather – teeny tiny) framed in a window box with an outfit sent to me from overseas. The box frame was given to me on my 21st by the same person who gave me the shoes as a newborn.
PS. Love Old Soles!
Unfortunately i dont have my first shoes but remember that they all were hand me downs from my parents’ friends. As i grew up in Europe and it was very tough there at the time we didnt have much clothes, shoes or toys. But still were very happy kids.
I can’t remember my first pair of shoes, I would need to ask my mum! They were probably hand me downs from my sister I know my mum saved one pair of my sister’s shoes, navy blue leather ones.

My first pair of shoes was a pair of white leather buckle up mary janes when I was about 2. My mum would still have them in a box somewhere I’m sure!!
